What is desktop publishing?
Desktop publishing, or DTP, is the process of converting written or printed text to digital format. This is especially important for translated text because what comes out of the finalized translation may not necessarily match up to how the original document looked. This turns out to be a problem for certain languages, such as Japanese or Chinese, or languages using the Cyrillic alphabet, resulting in texts that may be significantly shorter or longer than the original. This is where DTP comes in.
